Care of jewellery
The following information gives helpful tips on the care of each collection on offer.
Polished Sterling Silver Jewellery
Due to the nature and softness of the metal, sterling silver pieces that have a highly polished finish are prone to fine scratches as a result of normal wear. This can be kept to a minimum with careful wear and regular polishing with cream silver cleaner (e.g. Peak). It is possible to remove more stubborn scratches with a professional polish, which can be done by a reputable silversmith.
Sterling silver is nickel free and is suitable for people who are sensitive to metals. Care must be taken not to expose the sterling silver to perfumes, toiletries, household cleaning fluids and perspiration; these may cause the sterling silver to tarnish. If tarnishing does occur the item should be polished with a cream cleaner or dipped in a silver cleaning solution. These can be bought in supermarkets or department stores. All traces of cleaning solution must be rinsed from the item before it is worn again.
Matt Sterling Silver Jewellery
Sterling Silver jewellery with the matt finish must not be polished in the normal way. A slightly abrasive surface such as a scourer should be used to revitalise the effect. Gently brush the silver in one direction with the scourer to achieve the best results.
To remove any stubborn tarnishing on matt silver please use foam silver cleaner and apply with a sponge. Again these can be bought at most supermarkets or large department stores. The cleaning solution must be rinsed from the product before it is worn again.
Frosted Sterling Silver Jewellery
Cream cleaner and silver dip must not be used on this surface. A mild soapy detergent and soft brush are ideal for maintaining the effect of this finish. Clean the item gently and with care.
Oxidised Sterling Silver Jewellery
This must not be cleaned with a silver cream cleaner or dipped. It will lose its darker finish if it comes into contact with harsh chemicals, resulting in a polished finish.
Extreme dryness and humidity are detrimental to pearls. All pearls are sensitive to acids, perspiration, cosmetics and hairsprays.
Cubic Zirconia Jewellery
If the gemstones need cleaning they should be cleaned gently with mild soapy detergent and a soft brush.
If the crystal needs cleaning they should be cleaned gently with mild soapy detergent and a soft brush.
Semi-Precious Stone Jewellery
Care must be taken not to bring these into contact with perfumes, hairsprays, toiletries or any harsh cleaning fluids. Use a soft cloth or a very soft brush to clean any stones that may require cleaning.
